Yes.

People here often say "Ade!" (with the stress on the e). The Duden says: becoming obsolete, still in regional use -- and that's it. "Nun ade, du mein lieb Heimatland ..." -- they sure don't learn this in school today. :-) Of course, "ade" has its roots in the French "adieu", and that's what I prefer for quite some time now. Of course if I say goodbye to some older person I take a small bow and say "Auf Wiedersehen!".

Is "ciao" so famous with you people as it is here?
